Christina Davidson, MD, FACOG, Joins ACOG as Chief Medical Officer
This week, Christina Davidson, MD, FACOG, a nationally recognized academic leader and board-certified maternal–fetal medicine specialist, joined ACOG as its new chief medical officer. In her new role, Dr. Davidson will oversee the organization’s clinical guidance development, quality improvement, and clinical practice activities.
Dr. Davidson served in multiple leadership roles within Baylor’s ob-gyn department and affiliated health systems and is nationally recognized for her leadership in quality improvement efforts that address and reduce disparities in maternal morbidity. She held the positions of vice chair of quality and patient safety for the ob-gyn department and chief quality officer for ob-gyn at Texas Children’s Hospital from 2017 to her departure. She previously served as Texas Children’s inaugural system chief health equity officer, a role in which she advanced strategic initiatives to promote equitable care delivery and improve health outcomes for women and children.
“ACOG is known for guidance that moves our field forward,” said ACOG CEO Sandra E. Brooks, MD, MBA, FACOG. “Setting the standard is essential—and our impact grows even more when that guidance is put into practice. I’m thrilled Dr. Davidson is joining us to strengthen how we translate science into care—advancing implementation, expanding impact, and driving more equitable outcomes for every patient.”
With a foundation in chemical engineering and over 15 years of leadership in academic medicine, Dr. Davidson has dedicated her career to advancing maternal health through quality improvement, patient safety, health equity, and education. She has led national and statewide quality collaboratives, chairing the Texas Perinatal Quality Collaborative Obstetrics Committee and the Society for Maternal–Fetal Medicine Patient Safety and Quality Committee.
Dr. Davidson also served as the chief of service at Ben Taub Hospital, a safety net hospital in the Texas Medical Center, and as the associate director for its Division of Maternal–Fetal Medicine. She has served for almost 20 years at Baylor, where she holds the rank of tenured professor.
“Throughout my career, I have prioritized training the next generation of clinicians in evidence-based medicine, with ACOG guidance being foundational. Working with such diverse learners and patient populations in Houston, Texas, I recognized the importance and significance of embedding culturally responsive care and structural equity into medical education and institutional culture,” said Dr. Davidson. “In my new role as the chief medical officer at ACOG, I aim to continue advancing systems of care that serve diverse populations, through strategic leadership, clinical guideline oversight, and mentorship.”
A native of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, Dr. Davidson earned her bachelor’s degree from Howard University and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where she also completed her fellowship in maternal–fetal medicine after a residency at Christus St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas.
